Irritable Bowel Syndrome In Children

Irritable Bowel Syndrome In Children
By Roger Thompson

Many people do not realize it, but irritable bowel syndrome can actually also develop in children. Although the condition is not considered as being major or serious in any way, the symptoms that are caused by the condition can be incredibly frustrating and annoying, not to mention embarrassing, especially for children who are even less able to deal with these sorts of things. In children and adolescents, IBS affects girls and boys equally and may be diarrhea-predominant, constipation-predominant, or have a variable stool pattern.

Children with IBS may also have headache, nausea, or mucus in the stool. Weight loss may occur if a child eats less to try to avoid pain. Some children first develop symptoms after a stressful event, such as teething, a bout with the flu, or problems at school or at home. Stress does not cause IBS, but it can trigger symptoms.

To diagnose IBS, the doctor will ask questions about symptoms and examine the child to rule out more serious problems or diseases. IBS is not a disease—it is a syndrome, or group of symptoms that occur together. It does not damage the intestine, so if the physical exam and other tests show no sign of disease or damage, the doctor may diagnose IBS. In children, IBS is treated mainly through changes in diet—eating more fiber and less fat to help prevent spasms—and through bowel training to teach the child to empty the bowels at regular, specific times during the day. Medications like laxatives are rarely prescribed because children are more susceptible to addiction than adults.

When laxatives are necessary, parents must follow the doctor's instructions carefully. Learning stress management techniques may also help some children.

There is a lot of important information to know when it comes to irritable bowel syndrome in children. For one, it is a digestive disorder that causes abdominal pain, bloating, gas, and similar problems. It is classified as being a functional disorder because it is caused by a problem in the intestines, and it may be a cause of recurring abdominal pain in children.

When it comes to the diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome in children, a basic diagnosis here will usually be based on the child experiencing abdominal pain and cramping, as well as on any of the following: the pain is relieved after having a bowel movement, the onset of pain is typically associated with a change in stool consistency, and the onset of pain is associated with a change in the frequency of stools.

Although there are many similarities between irritable bowel syndrome in adults and irritable bowel syndrome in children, there are many differences as well. For instance, in order to diagnose the condition the doctor will have to ask questions about the symptoms the child is experiencing and physically examine the child in order to rule out more serious problems and diseases. With the condition of irritable bowel syndrome in children, the attending doctor will usually treat the condition with a change in diet, or at least this will be their first attempt. This includes getting the child to eat more fiber, drink more water, and eat less fatty and greasy foods.

Medications are also often recommended, although special care has to be taken here because medications affect children a lot differently than they do adults.

Although the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome can usually be relieved or even completely eliminated simply with a change in diet or with medication, if this does not seem to be enough then further steps are going to need to be taken. Hypnosis, yoga, and other relaxation techniques are often used to reduce stress and help relieve the symptoms associated with the condition, for instance.

Drug Treatment For Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Drug Treatment For Irritable Bowel Syndrome
By Roger Thompson

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional GI disorder characterized by abdominal pain and altered bowel habits in the absence of specific and unique organic pathology. Osler coined the term mucous colitis in 1892 when he wrote of a disorder of mucorrhea and abdominal colic with a high incidence in patients with coincident psychopathology. Since that time, the syndrome has been referred to by sundry terms, including spastic, irritable, and nervous colon.

Traditionally, IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion. No specific motility or structural correlates have been consistently demonstrated, so IBS remains a clinically defined illness.

The criteria to distinguish IBS from organic disease are as follows:

. Onset of pain associated with more frequent bowel movements.
. Onset of pain associated with looser bowel movements
. Pain relieved by defecation.
. Visible abdominal bloating.
. Subjective sensation of incomplete evacuation more than 25% of the time.
. Mucorrhea more than 25% of the time.

Irritable bowel syndrome is a disorder in which the nerves in the body that usually work to control the muscles in the GI tract are too active, thereby causing it to become sensitive to food, stool, gas and so on. There are many different methods of treatment that are available for irritable bowel syndrome, one of the most common being the drug treatment for irritable bowel syndrome It is important to realize however that there is no single drug used for all cases of irritable bowel syndrome. Rather, you are going to have to work together with your doctor and get a proper diagnosis of your condition, so that you can determine what specific drug treatment for irritable bowel syndrome is going to be best suited for you.

Besides drug treatment for irritable bowel syndrome there are also a few other things that you are going to want to do as well. Remember that the primary goal for treatment of an irritable bowel syndrome condition is to reduce the symptoms, and this is something that can usually be accomplished with basic stress management techniques or positive changes in the diet. Then if the symptoms continue, ongoing care by a physician is often the most ideal option. It is also important to remember that even if you may be on a drug treatment for irritable bowel syndrome, you should not depend on this as a permanent method of treatment, but rather should aim to live a healthier lifestyle in general and that by taking seemingly small steps, including eating more fruits and vegetables and drinking more water, you will be doing a great favor for yourself in terms of treating your condition. Every little thing you can do is going to make a difference here, and so you should try to do as many things as you can in terms of relieving your condition.

Besides regular therapy and counseling, another great idea for irritable bowel syndrome sufferers is to join a group therapy class. This gives you an opportunity to meet others who are also suffering from the condition and you will have people to give you firsthand opinions on their own experiences, as well as have people there who can answer any questions that you may have.
This condition is incredibly common worldwide, and if you ever experience any of the symptoms associated with this disorder then you should seek medical attention as soon as possible in order to have a proper assessment and diagnosis.

Health Tip or just humor ? .... :o)

Dear Friends,

As Ben Franklin said: In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom, in water there is bacteria.

In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. Coli) - bacteria found In feces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop.

However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine and beer (or vodka, tequila, rum, whiskey or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.

Therefore, from this I conclude that it's better to drink booze and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of shit.

There is no need to thank me for this valuable information: I'm doing it as a public service....

Concerned About Acid Reflux Breathing Problems?

Concerned About Acid Reflux Breathing Problems?
By Kathryn Whittaker

Most acid reflux sufferers who work to keep their acid reflux symptoms under control generally have fewer problems, but there are some exceptions. When you suffer from chronic acid reflux, which has been left untreated, you may end up with acid reflux breathing problems that can be serious if you continue to ignore them.

Many people don’t realize that when they sleep, acid can seep up into the lungs. This does not generally occur when acid reflux is controlled, but it does happen more often than people think. The esophagus can sustain damage from refluxed acid, but if acid reflux is treated either with medication, through lifestyle changes or a combination of both, that damage can be repaired.

However, the tissues in the lungs are very vulnerable, and when they are damaged by reflux acid complications can occur and much of the damage can be permanent. This can lead to acid reflux breathing problems that may be with you for the rest of your life.

When the tissues in the lungs are damaged, they simply cannot work as they used to. The tissues can not stand up to the erosive properties of the acid and it starts to alter. This new, tougher type of tissue that lungs produce to protect themselves from a continuing assault from stomach acid simply does not function as well as healthy lung tissue does. This means your lungs cannot draw in oxygen or filter impurities and toxins as they used to and it may cause shortness of breath. Another complication with acid reflux breathing problems can be the development or worsening of existing asthma. When this occurs it is not easily reversed, and can seriously impact on your quality of life.

In order to help prevent acid from reaching your lungs and giving you acid reflux related breathing problems, major modifications are required in the way you eat and how you sleep.

Firstly, avoiding heavy meals, and eating your last meal at least 3 hours before going to bed can have a positive impact on acid reflux symptoms. Also, eating smaller meals with the additions of snacks throughout the day rather than 3 large meals will keep your digestive system moving and avoid a build up of acid in the stomach. Eating large meals puts your stomach under pressure to digest the food eaten, which means that more stomach acid is produced and the lower esophageal sphincter muscle at the top of the stomach can be placed under pressure, weaken and open, allowing acid to escape into the esophagus.

The position you sleep in can also have an impact on whether acid can aspirate into the lungs. When sleeping you should elevate your upper body, either by placing a wedge under your mattress or pillow that lifts your head at least six inches higher than your waist and hips, or by placing blocks under the head end of the bed. Sleeping in this elevated position can reduce the risk of acid refluxing and being aspirated into your lungs while you sleep.

If you suspect that you have developed acid reflux breathing problems, you should contact your doctor at once. Suffering from related breathing complications is an indication that your acid reflux is not under control, and that you may be at risk for even bigger health problems in the future. Your breathing difficulties may not be acid reflux related, but you should always find out what is causing your breathing problems so that the suitable treatment can be sought.

7 Quick And Easy Teen Weight Loss Tips

7 Quick And Easy Teen Weight Loss Tips
By Darlene Nicholson

Are you looking for some quick and easy teen weight loss tips? Then you’ve come to the right spot! These positive weight loss tips will get your overweight teen off that couch, away from the computer and on his or her way to a happier, healthier life!

One of the biggest contributing factors to being overweight as a teen has to do with a sedentary lifestyle. There’s so much entertainment geared towards sitting in front of a screen that kids tend to do just that. What motivation does your teen have to leave the screens behind and get some exercise? The key to these teen weight loss tips is to make exercise fun!

Teen weight loss tip #1: Does your teen like to spend time at the mall? Teach them the art of window shopping – fast window shopping! Take your teen to the mall early in the morning and join the mall walkers. As you walk at a brisk pace, your teen can check out all the store windows. This can even serve as a fashion education for you, Mom or Dad!

Teen weight loss tip #2: Racquetball!
Many physical activities help a person work off a bad mood, but racquetball allows your teen to pummel a bad mood! Teenagers are not lacking in emotional ups and downs. This ramped up tennis-like sport can really work off stress and calories at the same time. Check out your local parks and recreational facilities for free courts and go purchase a couple of cheap racquets and balls for you and your teen.

Teen weight loss tip #3: Let’s go fly a kite!
Kites can actually become a pretty cool hobby that offers exercise as well. Find a big field free of trees and go run some kites. This might be something a group of your teens friends will find fun and challenging as they learn to do tricks with their kites. Hey, maybe they’ll start a new trend!

Teen weight loss tip #4: Bring your teen to the gym with you.
Most fitness clubs offer use of their entire facilities for teenagers. If this is something in your budget, it can be a great way to help your teen make exercise a part of their lives. There are so many options for working out at a gym that your teen is bound to find an activity they love. They might even be encouraged by observing healthy people at work on their bodies.

Teen weight loss tip #5: Become running (or walking) buddies!
Going for a run or brisk walk in the morning with your teen not only benefits your child, but you as well. So set those alarm clocks a little earlier and hit the road. I haven’t met many teenagers that love to jump out of bed in the morning, so you may have to use a little bribery. It takes three weeks to make something a habit, good or bad. Tell them if they run with you for three weeks, you’ll buy them that new video game they’ve been wanting. Hey, I know, bribery isn’t the best parenting method, but break the rule for something this important! You’re giving your child a chance to form an exercise habit that they just might keep for a lifetime!

Teen weight loss tip #6: Golf.
What? Tiger Woods is in fantastic shape! Alright, so I realize that golf isn’t as ramped up as the rest of these tips, but walking an 18-hole course over two hours burns more calories than you might think. Couple that with carrying a golf bag and you’ve got a pretty decent activity! Obviously, you need to leave the golf cart behind. Besides, if your overweight child is less of the athletic type and more of the book worm, intellectual type, he or she will probably enjoy a skilled sport such as golf.

Teen weight loss tip #7: Exercise classes. If you don’t belong to a gym, our local community center or parks and rec organizations might offer classes for your teen to explore other areas of exercise. Perhaps your teen just hasn’t found something they like. There are so many forms of exercise out there that the possibilities are endless: yoga, Pilates, Yogalates, kick-boxing, karate, Kung Fu, hip-hop…

The best teen weight loss tip I can give you is to just get your teen moving. Be a positive influence for your teen and get moving with them!

Natural Cure For IBS

Natural Cure For IBS
By Roger Thompson

Irritable bowel syndrome is a disorder that is characterized by cramping and abdominal pain, and which does usually cause a great deal of discomfort and distress, it is typically not able to permanently harm the intestines and is not considered as being a major physical threat. Irritable bowel syndrome is a group of symptoms you have had for at least 12 weeks in the last 12 months. It always involves abdominal pain or discomfort along with two of the following three characteristics:

. Pain or discomfort relieved by defecation.
. Change in the frequency of bowel movements.
. Change in the appearance of stools.

You are definitely going to want to find a proper method of treatment for your irritable bowel syndrome so that you can find relief as soon as possible, and you basically have two options here – conventional treatment such as prescription medications, and alternative or natural treatments such as herbs and natural supplements.

If you are interested in finding an irritable bowel syndrome natural cure that is going to help relieve your symptoms and the best is to make a change in your diet. Although it sounds incredibly simple, by including certain foods in your diet and staying away from others, you will be able to make a huge difference in terms of your overall condition and will notice improvements in your condition almost immediately. One of the most commonly used irritable bowel syndrome natural cures is peppermint oil, which has shown to be incredibly effective in terms of treating digestive problems, including irritable bowel syndrome. Another very commonly used irritable bowel syndrome natural cures is partially hydrolyzed guar gum, which is a water-soluble fiber that is effective at reducing constipation and diarrhea. It also appears to be able to increase the amount of beneficial bacteria, which in turn helps to clean the intestines and reduce the symptoms associated with your condition.

Studies have found that probiotics may be helpful for people with irritable bowel syndrome. For example, a fairly large study published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology examined the use of three different doses of Bifidobacterium infantis or a placebo in 362 women with irritable bowel syndrome. After four weeks, the B. infantis dose of 1 x 10(8) c.f.u. was found to be more effective than a placebo at reducing abdominal pain, bloating, bowel dysfunction, incomplete evacuation, straining, and gas. There are many different probiotic strains, and some may be more effective for irritable bowel syndrome. Another study compared lactobacillus salivarius, bifidobacterium infantis, or a placebo in 77 people with irritable bowel syndrome. Only people who took B. infantis had a greater reduction in abdominal pain, bloating, and bowel movement difficulty.

If you are interested in learning more about the different irritable bowel syndrome natural cures that are available, then the best idea is to get hooked up with a nutritionist. A nutritionist is a health specialist who focuses exclusively on food and nutrition science, and who may consider your medical history and use laboratory tests and physical examination findings in order to determine how to best improve your health. Irritable bowel syndrome can definitely become a serious problem if left untreated but if you take the proper steps and maintain as generally healthy a lifestyle as possible, then you should be able to significantly relieve your symptoms and get back to living a regular life once again. Just remember to continue to work closely with your doctor and nutritionist even after your symptoms have begun to subside, so you can prevent the condition from reoccurring in the future.

How To Find The Best Weight Loss Products For Your Diet

How To Find The Best Weight Loss Products For Your Diet
By Trevor John

There are so many weight loss products on the market that it can be difficult to know what to choose.

Is Brand X really better than Brand Y?

How come you should cut out carbs with one diet yet eat as many of them as you want with another?

If that person really did lose 28 pounds in as many days, can someone like you do the same?

The claims sound good - but then no-one is going to tell you that their product sucks, are they?

So the first thing you need to do when looking for a weight loss product is to develop a healthy skepticism.

If there's a claim, check it out. That's easy to do nowadays with the internet but we often take the short cut of thinking that if a claim is printed, it must be the truth. It may well be true but it may not always be 100% honest. Someone, somewhere almost certainly lost weight using the product you're thinking about. But could you do the same? Or would they need to wire your jaws together before you stood a chance of even coming close?

If possible, check with your doctor before taking a new weight loss product. This is especially true if a product wants you to severely restrict the number of calories you're digesting. We need a minimum amount of calories to survive and if you go below the recommended level for too long, it's simply not healthy.

If friends or work colleagues have been successful with their diets, ask them what they did. They'll almost certainly be happy to share the details with you and you'll know that the claims haven't been put through some remote marketing machine and puffed up beyond all recognition.

Above all, keep your wits about you. If the claims of a weight loss product you're investigating seem too good to be true, they probably are.

It won't harm to put off the purchase decision until tomorrow (so long as you don't always put it off until "tomorrow").

If there's a special offer to buy now, this minute, otherwise the offer will disappear forever... Realize that this is almost certainly a marketing trick. If the product is good for you and will help you lose weight, then sure the retailer wants you to buy it. But unless you can see the product disappearing off the supermarket shelf by the trolley load, it will still be there tomorrow. In fact, even if it's selling fast it is highly likely more stocks will be bought in. Nowadays almost nothing is truly limited in supply.

One final trick: once you find a weight loss product that works for you, stick with it. Don't jump onto the next bandwagon just because it's there. As soon as you find a product that helps you lose weight, stay with it!

Whether you choose a diet book, a ready meals program, an exercise DVD or a metabolism boosting pill (or a combination of these) for your weight loss program, make sure you follow your chosen program. It's all too easy to start off with the best intentions, only to let things slip a few days or weeks later.

You owe it to your health to lose that weight and keep it off!

Acne Free In 3 Days - Guaranteed!!!

Acne Free In 3 Days - Guaranteed!!!
By Stuart Hawley

The reason you more than likely visited this site today is because you were looking for information about Acne Skin Care products or how to clear your skin. Just to give you a little background about myself, I started having serious skin problems, including acne as a teenager in high school. I tried the different treatments, including looking at various sites dealing with acne reviews, available on the market, like the skin care creams, lotions, and cleansers. Nothing really gave me the
results I was looking for.

In fact, I found out years later that the same over-the-counter products I had spent money on and tried had assisted in worsening my acne condition. I mean I was only a teenager and I did not know what I was doing. I had just seen the commercials on TV and went to the local Wal-Mart or Target to buy what they were selling. The other side of it was my friends and family kept giving me advice on what acne skin care products to try that they thought worked the best. Over the years and after much trial and error, I found out there are some things you could do immediately that gave excellent results. This is when I figured out the first real basic secret to having clear skin.

Basic Secret #1: Using a Glycerin Based or Sorbitol Based Soap or Face Wash.

You have probably noticed that with most soaps and washes on the market, it is difficult to remove all the oil on the skin without over-drying or irritating it. I would also always feel an oily residue especially around the T zone (middle forehead to nose and chin). A lot of what I tried even left a waxy feeling that I have now come to understand contributes to blocking the pores and causing breakouts in many people.

It was when I tried glycerin based soaps that I got great cleaning without the dryness or waxy feel to my skin. I found the same was true of sorbitol face washes as well. These types of soaps also balance the pH of the skin, creating a hostile environment for bacteria. By replacing both my soap and face wash with the more effective alternatives I was able to find, my road to clear skin had been completely changed. I know that if you make similar changes, you are sure to get good results like I did.

This is also the reason why I created my own brand of face wash that is glycerin based. It is part of my all-natural Ginalé line of skin care products based on my book. I hope you found this information helpful and useful. It is the first step in a series of five basic secrets to clearing your skin. If you would like to learn all of my secrets along with how I was able to get rid of my acne condition in just three days, then follow through to the link below to take a look at this website. It will provide you with more information and tips from my No1 best selling book "Acne Free In 3 Days." - so successful that I have appeared on a number of TV shows, including Fox and CBS and International Media Just recently The Birmingham Times called it, "A groundbreaking 'rule-book' for getting clear and healthy skin in
3 days!" You can find out so much more about how to get incredible looking skin by following through to this next link http://www.qtis-skincare.com/affils/acnefree.php and you can see, read and hear all of the many testimonials for this product.

"A basic testimonial, instructive, and not overstated book regarding acne. When you read this book, you will be amazingly surprised at the easy-to-do solutions I have to get rid of your acne problem. This groundbreaking rule book can dramatically change the life of anyone living with the effects of acne..."

10 Steps To Full Body Detox

10 Steps To Full Body Detox
By John Khu

You've done a body detox plan before and notice the results where off not too long afterwards. What's the problem? The deal is that as soon as you stop using your body detox plan, you immediately start putting toxins back in your body. While our focus is on permanent elimination, adapting certain tips in your daily life will help your body stay cleansed. They are as follows:

1. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. This is one of the most basic recommendations. However, the amount is no longer eight glasses a day. The recommended amount is your body weight divided by 2 in oz. of water. For example, if you weigh 100 lbs/2=50 oz of water.

2. While water inside your body is a good way to detox, using water on the outside of your body also helps. Try a hot shower for five minutes, alternating a few times with cold water for 30 seconds. Take a rest for 30 minutes afterwards. This will extend the results of your home body detox.

3. Look for ways to bolster a clean liver with herbal supplements and drinking green tea. Your natural food store can make recommendations. Your liver plays an important role in keeping your body working properly.

4. Eat foods which are naturally detoxifying, such as leafy greens and seaweed. Bulk up on fiber. Try to stick to organic fruits and vegetables. Stay away from caffeine, sugar and nicotine.

5. An OJ a day does keep the doctor away. Actually, juices are high in sugar, but make sure to take plenty of Vitamin C. This helps the liver function also.

6. Sweat it out........literally. Perspiration is one way your body naturally removes waste. Try sweating in a hot tub or sauna to help eliminate toxins.

7. Take a deep breath. The deeper you breathe, the more oxygen circulates in your blood and helps keep it clean. This is one of the easiest ways to promote health. When you breathe deeply, your stomach should come out as you breathe in and deflate like a balloon when you breathe out.

8. Exercise, exercise, exercise. This is still one of the best ways to remove toxins from the system and help increase energy levels. Yoga is highly recommended, as well as other eastern forms of exercise which specifically have movements to promote detoxification such as qigong.

9. Learn to deal with stress. High levels of stress cause hormone changes which actually can hinder the detoxification process. Dealing with stress effectively aids in natural body detox. Try meditation or therapy. A couple of minutes daily can make all the difference in the world.

10. Exfoliate your skin by dry-brushing. Don't use any salt or sugar scrubs, as these may have chemicals in them that will harm your body. You can also purchase special baths to help eliminate waste through your pores.

All these recommendations are important to keep your body cleansed. While you may not be able to do them all at once, slowly incorporating them into your daily routine helps bolster your chances for success.

Diet – Healthy Eating And Exercise

Diet – Healthy Eating And Exercise
By Helen Cox

Our life and health is impacted every day by the food we eat. Your body needs a constant supply of energy to fuel your heartbeat, breathing, digestion and to help repair body tissue. This energy is measured in calories. To maintain a healthy balance with calorie intake and fat intake in mind, you need to find a balance in the food you choose to eat.

There are five main food groups which people should be eating a varied mixture of on a daily in order to maintain healthy eating. Starchy foods make up one of these groups. Starchy foods refer to bread, potatoes, rice and pasta. These foods are your main source of carbohydrates and make up half of your daily energy intake. You need a sufficient amount of starchy food just like you need a strong amount of dairy products. Dairy products are rich in protein and your best source of vitamin D and Calcium. As well as starchy foods and dairy products you also need some intake of fats and sugar. Your fat intake should not exceed 35% but you should not cut it out of your diet completely as fat is the most energy dense nutrient that your body can get.

Probably the most important out of the five food groups however is fruit and vegetables. It is said that you should have at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. There is strong evidence that by doing this you are reducing the risk of things such as heart disease.

There is strong evidence that suggests by eating healthy you are reducing the risk of illness such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease and several types of cancer, including bowel cancer. Having a healthy diet is important and can potentially extend your life.

Healthy eating can however be overlooked when it comes to dieting. The image of slim women is all that greets us in fashion magazines, the music industry and the film industry. These images are burned into our minds as what we should all look like and women and men across the country are doing anything they can to lose weight, including risking their health.

Every where we look there are new diet fads appearing, this is especially evident across the internet. The list of these diets seems never ending and most offer a quick fix to lose weight fast. One of these diets is the Atkins diet. On the Atkins diet you are encouraged to eat all types of meat, cheese, eggs and fats (butter or oils); completely throwing out the fact you are supposed to keep your fat intake down to around 35%. You are also told to limit the amount of carbohydrates you eat on this diet, which again throws out the fact that carbohydrates make up half of your daily energy intake.

Another diet fad that has grown in popularity is the liquid diet. Even though medically it is only really safe to go on this diet if you are going to undergo a medical procedure such as a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy; people are using it as a way of losing weight fast. In certain cases of extreme obesity, a liquid diet is used to make the person lose weight. A liquid diet either partially replaces meals or completely does meaning that your only intake will be fluids such as teas and juices.

A liquid diet could possibly disrupt the natural flow of your body and will not provide you with enough nutrients, energy or protein to get you through the day. A liquid diet will also not teach individuals the requirements of healthy eating to maintain weight loss over a long period of time.

Diet fads are growing more popular but these are just quick fixes and will not help you in a long term sense. The best way in order to loss weight as well as keeping a good balance of the five food groups is to eat the right foods in the right quantity. Cut out sugary snacks and replace them with more fruit intake; vary your diet so you aren’t eating the same things over and over.

As well as eating the right type of food you should also start a regular exercise programme which will get you in shape faster than any diet fad will. Regular exercise will not only keep you healthy it could also be the reason as to why you live longer as taking regular exercise will help to prevent against things such as diabetes, heart disease and certain types of cancer.

Medical guidelines state that healthy adults should be getting at least 30 minutes of intense activity five days a week. This exercise can be anything from walking, mowing the lawn, dancing, cycling, any type of sport, aerobics or even weight training.
The key to exercise is finding one that best suits you.

Exercise combined with a good diet, which incorporates all of the five food groups is all you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to lose the weight that you want.

Burn That Fat Fast - Here's How To Do It!

Burn That Fat Fast - Here's How To Do It!
By Jim Keayes

Burn That Fat---Never Go Hungry--Here's how to do it!

I don't know anyone who wants to battle those hunger cravings while they're on a diet.

How about you?

The last thing we want in a diet is to have to be disciplined, white knuckle it, hang in there and hope we'll be strong… it just isn't fun! In fact it's misery!

And every time, somewhere along the way, we break down and reach for those carbs… our old and trusted friend that brings us comfort in the dark times. And all the weight we've lost comes rushing back on.

Is that a familiar story?

Those carbohydrates are not really your friends. In fact they're your enemy.

They stroll on in, all smiles saying: "Hi there good lookin', you seem down today. Let me make you feel better". Here… have some of this delicious cake. You eat the carbs and before you know it you've fallen off your diet plan.

Now you know you're worthless… you've failed again!

So what can we do to make this easier?

The thing is very simply this… carbs make you hungry and carbs create fat.

I can go into all of the body chemistry about why this is so… and I have done in lots of articles… but I don't think most people really care.

So let's look at it this way: Carbohydrates are highly addictive. They're as bad or worse than alcohol and drugs. Not everyone is set up to get addicted to arbohydrates, but if you are susceptible then carbohydrates will take you down.

It's not your fault!!!

You fall into this trap by accident. After all, carbs are food and we all like food. And carbs are delicious and satisfying.

But carbs screw with our insulin/sugar cycles and eventually (often it takes years) we become "insulin insensitive" and our muscles and lean tissue can no longer take up the glucose in our bloodstream. The glucose is then deposited as fat around our
belly and in our liver.

At this point in our lives we can actually begin to eat less calories and gain weight.

If we continue to eat a diet rich in highly processed carbohydrates, we will continue to gain weight and eventually contract Diabetes 2 and heart disease.

We hear a lot of talk about high glycemic foods these days. These are foods which are quickly and easily converted into glucose in our blood by our stomach. They spike our blood sugar levels way above the normal operating range and trigger massive inflows of insulin to our system. This is how the problem starts and continues.

The solution is very simple. Get off those high glycemic foods and get onto a diet rich in protein, fruits, vegetables and unprocessed natural grains.

I can show you how to reverse that carbohydrate addiction and as a bonus lose up to 5 pounds or more in 5 days.

You will lose your food cravings and not go hungry. If you continue with the program for 12 weeks or more you will almost certainly lose significant amounts of weight and begin to restore your health.

Natural Indigestion Treatment For Acid Reflux Sufferers

Natural Indigestion Treatment For Acid Reflux Sufferers
By Kathryn Whittaker

Prescription medications can work well for acid reflux, but they are not for everyone, either due to side effects, cost or because of a reluctance to take medications long term. While modifying your diet and adapting your sleeping position can be very helpful steps in keeping this condition under control, there are times when they might not be enough. When that is the case, some turn to natural forms of indigestion treatment to see if they can help keep acid reflux symptoms and pain at bay.

One of the best natural types of indigestion treatments is a modification of lifestyle. If you are overweight, losing just ten percent of your body weight can help. Many acid reflux sufferers report a significant improvement and even eliminationof symptoms simply by losing excess weight. It is thought that being overweight places pressure on the stomach, especially when lying down, which forces the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (the muscle at the top of the stomach) open, allowing acid and stomach contents to easily reflux into the esophagus.

Smoking is another lifestyle factor that can actively encourage acid reflux symptoms. Smoking relaxes the LES and slows down digestion speed, meaning that food sits in the stomach for longer, promoting the likelihood of acid reflux to occur.

A third lifestyle factor is alcohol consumption. Alcohol is bad for acid reflux for a number of reasons. It relaxes the LES, encourages stomach acid production and can lead to indigestion. If you’re suffering with acid reflux it is best to avoid all alcohol, especially the carbonated drinks. However, if you do want to have a drink keep the quantity small and make sure you have plenty of water alongside it.

Modifying diet was mentioned at the beginning of this article as being a beneficial way of controlling acid reflux. Along with what you eat, it is just as important to be aware of when you eat and in what quantities. Eating smaller meals more often throughout the day is the best approach. The traditional large 3 meals a day we’re all used to is not good for acid reflux sufferers. Large meals place the stomach under stress and will often trigger symptoms to flare. Also, be aware of when you eat and try to make the last meal of the day 3 hours before your retire to bed at night so foods have been digested and moved out of the stomach.

For some people a natural indigestion treatment that works well is probiotics. Probiotics are good bacteria that are naturally present in your stomach that aid digestion. Should these get out of kilter, you can have problems with digestion. Probiotics are available in food or supplement form that helps aid digestion and keep your system moving. Having sufficient quantities of probiotics can cut down on the amount of acid your stomach has to make, lessening your chance of developing problems with indigestion and acid reflux. As an added benefit, Probiotics also help boost your immune system too.

Other natural indigestion remedies can be found in the home. Ginger has long been used as a digestive aid and to reduce nausea. Ginger can be taken as tea, either using tea bags or steeping shavings of fresh, peeled ginger root You can also find it in capsule form or as a syrup. Ginger seems to absorb or neutralize acid in your stomach, and also has a calming affect.

Should you wish to try any type of natural indigestion treatment, it is advisable to consult with your doctor to be sure they are safe and that they will not adversely react with any type of medication you may be taking.

Burn Off The Belly Fat With These Four Common Spices!

Burn Off The Belly Fat With These Four Common Spices!
By Willie Jones

Spices, we all have them in our cupboards, but for most people, we think of them in terms of flavor enhancers only. Most of us think we get our nutrition from meat, vegetables and fruit. But don’t underestimate the power of spices. You would be amazed at the nutrient value they have and what they can do for our metabolism.

Take cayenne pepper for example. It comes from a vegetable that really is a chili pepper. It is loaded with vitamin A, vitamins C and B6, it has fiber, vitamin K and manganese. Not only is it nutritious, it is a thermogenic food (burning up of calories) that increases metabolism. This is why it is good for weight loss. All hot peppers contain capsaicin. The hotter the chili, the more capsaicin it contains. Fresh chilis are always best but using cayenne pepper daily will not only spice up your favorite foods but will speed up the metabolism which in turn helps you to lose weight.

Cinnamon is not only a delicious spice but has many health benefits. It can reduce bad cholesterol and triglycerides. It also mimics insulin that lowers blood glucose. This is good news for diabetics. A study was done by the USDA Research Center in Maryland where they were testing how certain foods affected the blood sugar levels in the body. When they tested apple pie they were expecting it to spike glucose levels. To their surprise, it actually lowered glucose levels. It was the cinnamon in it that created this unexpected result. For all of us apple pie lovers, this is fantastic news. Dessert is back! Cinnamon also improves blood circulation which in turn increases getting oxygen to the cells of the body. This also increases the metabolism. (Got to love that cinnamon)

Ginger is another favorite for weight loss. According to the International Journal of Obesity, a study was done to see if ginger could help reduce body fat. What they found was that ginger is also a thermogenic food. After eating ginger, tissues in the body used more energy than they normally would have and therefore creating higher metabolism. As with cayenne pepper, ginger also improves circulation. So go ahead and enjoy ginger. If you have never tried it, you can find some good recipes online to experiment with.

Basil is a spice in most people’s cupboards. It is a member of the mint family. This tasty, aromatic spice has anti-bacterial properties. It can be used to wash fruits and vegetables therefore making them safe to eat. It is also high in vitamin A and potassium. As with cinnamon, basil has been shown in tests to reduce glucose levels in the blood. Basil is the main ingredient in pesto and has a wonderful relationship with tomatoes. Basil is a common spice in all Italian foods. Little did we know that basil could help us lose weight.

It is hard for the majority of people to stick to a good diet let alone try to lose weight. A key factor in most weight loss programs is bland tasting food. No one is going to stick to a diet for very long when we are disgusted with what our food choices are. We do have a card to play though and that is tasty, healthy spices! This can make all the difference in our weight loss goals, especially troublesome belly fat. Make your food taste delicious with spices and you will find it much easier to stick to your plan.

Good luck!
