Arthritis - Herbs And Ayurvedic Remedies, Arthritis Symptom And Other Treatments

Arthritis - Herbs And Ayurvedic Remedies, Arthritis Symptom And Other Treatments
By Tom Alter

What is Arthritis?

Arthritis is inflammation of the joints. It can occur anywhere in the body and, based on that, there are several types of arthritis. The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis which is the common ailment of pain in the joints observed in elderly people. Other common types of arthritic ailments are rheumatoid arthritis and gout.

The word arthritis is derived from two root Greek words – arthros meaning ‘joint’ and it is meaning ‘inflammation’. Hence, arthritis literally translates as inflammation of the joints.

Arthritis is an auto-immune disease, which means, it is a disease in which the human body attacks itself. It begins in one or two joints where an acute pain is felt. This is the most miserable phase of arthritis. Over time, this pain may disappear, but it could cause permanent deformities in the bones and joints.

Why is Arthritis caused?

Different types of arthritis are caused due to different reasons.

(1)Osteoarthritis – Osteoarthritis is a common old-age problem, which affects several people who have crossed the age of 40 years. In people with osteoarthritis, the bones may increase in size at their articulating points. As a result the spaces between them in the joints become less. When moving about, there is a high probability that different bones will rub against each other. This is the cause of osteoarthritis.

(2)Rheumatoid Arthritis – Rheumatoid arthritis is a more serious problem than osteoarthritis because it can occur at any age. In people with rheumatoid arthritis, the ligaments and tendons between the joints undergo degeneration. This causes severe pain where the degeneration has taken place. Common rheumatoid arthritis pains are felt in the fingers; but other places like the wrists, hip and knees are also affected. Rheumatoid arthritis is responsible for deformation of the fingers.

(3)Septic Arthritis – Septic arthritis is a special type of arthritis which is caused when the joints get infected.

(4)Gout – Gout is common old-age arthritis. It is caused when crystals of uric acid are deposited in the spaces between the joints. This type of arthritis is linked with faulty digestion.

What are the Symptoms of Arthritis?

In all types of arthritis, the following symptoms are observed:-

§ The initial pains are felt as fleeting pains in the joints, which seem to be no more than a twitching pain.

§ Pains alternate between various joints quickly.

§ If the arthritis becomes acute, then on a particular day there is very sharp pain in a joint, and it becomes absolutely normal the next day. The next day another joint could be affected in a similar fashion.

§ The pains could increase in the winter season or in cold nights.

How can Arthritis be avoided?

Arthritis cannot be avoided effectively as it is a common ailment that occurs with advancing age. One must learn to live with the problem. But there are various things which can be avoided in order to keep arthritis at bay.

The following foods must be avoided if you have continuous arthritic pains:-

§ Animal fats
§ Fried foods
§ Foods rich in carbohydrates like potatoes
§ Tomatoes
§ Peppers
§ Salt

Simple yogic asanas and light exercise helps proper digestion of the body and also protects it from autoimmune problems. Hence, these are beneficial in arthritis.

If you have recurrent pains in the joints, then do not keep the joint covered. As far as possible, keep the joint exposed to the air. For example, if you have pain in the knee joints, then do not wear tight denim clothing; shorts would be a good idea. This will provide freer circulation of blood in the joint and reduce the pains.

How can Arthritis be controlled with Simple Home Remedies?

Some household remedies are known to provide relief from arthritic pains. The following are some of the more benefiting ones:-

§ Applying a paste of limestone and honey on the affected joints externally provides relief.

§ Mash some mustard in warm water and apply this solution on the joints. This must be done repeatedly to get results.

§ Put two teaspoons of cumin into a glass of water. Bring this to a boil. When the water is still hot, soak a towel in it and foment the affected region with this towel. This will provide relief from the pain within a few hours.

§ Asafetida mixed with egg yolk can be applied on the affected joints to seek immediate relief.

§ Prepare a pancake from wheat flour. Roast it on one side, but leave it uncooked on the other. Then put some heated mustard oil on the uncooked side. When it is hot, tie it like a tourniquet on the affected joint, or provide fomentation with it. This provides quick relief.

§ Mix some cardamom in milk. Put a pinch of turmeric in this milk. This is to be drunk every night while going to sleep. This makes the person sleep peacefully in the morning.

The Cheaper Arthritis Treatment: Improve Your Diet To Prevent Or

The Cheaper Arthritis Treatment: Improve Your Diet To Prevent Or Cure Arthritis
By Gloria Diaz

Arthritis is often associated with people in their 50s or older. But nowadays, more and more younger people are showing signs of this joint-related disease. What exactly are the causes of joint inflammation and what are the best arthritis treatment? Inflammation of the joints can result from previous injuries, like tibial plateau fracture, which affects certain sensitive cartilages and muscle tissues. A person can also develop joint swelling and pain if two or more of his or her family members have gout or any related illness. Needless to say, age is also one of the most significant factors in determining the onset of swelling of the joints. As a person gets older, his or her bones tend to be weaker and more fragile as one of the results of the natural laws of aging. But this doesn't necessarily mean teenagers or the twenty-somethings can be complacent. There are cases of brittle joints among younger age brackets because of extraneous determinants like weight and existing illness.

It is understandable that obese or overweight persons have greater tendencies of exhausting or wearing out their bones. Since weight is identified as a factor in causing joint inflammation, doctors suggest arthritis treatment can be in the form of improving one's diet. There are specific diets, like meals heavy in unsaturated fat and cholesterol, that make a person even more susceptible in experiencing joint pain and swelling. On the other hand, foods rich in certain minerals and vitamins are one's best ally in preventing early signs of bone inflammation. Choose foods with high nutritional value and specifically contain Vitamins K and E, which promote healthier bones. To alleviate inflammation, a person should boost his or her intake of vitamins B12 and B6. If beneficial minerals like zinc and copper are not usually found on your daily meal plan, take health supplements that offer these specific nutrients.

There are also certain medications supposedly aimed at combating arthritis. Some of these drugs don't come without hazardous side effects so it is still best to follow natural remedies to prevent or cure joint inflammation. Arthritis treatment need not cost someone a fortune. The safest and surest way is still through sticking to a healthy diet, or even particular exercise routines, or whatever a doctor advised a patient to do. One should not wait to get older before he starts to take care of his bones and joints. A person may not realize the importance of bone health until he experiences the premature tell-tale signs of joint swelling and inflammation.

Top Tips To Relieve Burns

Top Tips To Relieve Burns
By Raymond Geok Seng Lee

Scalding tap water, the business end of a red-hot iron, a welt from a hot oven rack, all can cause an excruciating painful burn. So the most effective burn remedy is to avoid getting burned in the first place. Wise advice. But if you do get scalded or singed and you probably will at some point, it is important to act fast, both to ease the pain and to save your skin. What you do in the first few moments is crucial. Common household burns are the kind that you get if you grasp the handle of a smoking saucepan or brush your calf against a blistering-hot radiator. They are known as first- or second- degree burns resulting in redness, pain, and some blistering. More serious burns needs a doctor’s attention. Here are some tips that you can consider to adopt to relieve your pain.

Cool the burn. Flush the burn with cold water until the pain stops as long as 20 to 30 minutes. The heat from a burn continues to penetrate your skin even after you have removed the source of the heat. Cool water can help prevent the burn from going deeper. If using running water is too painful, try a cold-water compress.

Save the salve. Wait for a while before applying any kind of salve or ointment to your burn. You have to neutralize the heat first. Otherwise, all the salve will do is baste the burn by keeping the heat inside. When can you use salve? Hours later. If the burn is still painful and you develop a small blister, you can apply ointment to keep the burn lubricated. It is recommended using an ointment containing the antibiotic bacitracin.

Aid the aloe. Use the cooling gel of the aloe vera plant to ease the pain of a superficial burn. As with salves and ointments, you should hold off on the aloe to give the burn a chance to neutralize. At that point, you can apply the gel twice a day, either directly from the leaf of the plant or in bottled form. Use the clear kind, not the stuff with added coloring.

Keep the burn covered. Cover a burn with loose gauze, not an adhesive bandage. Or try an over-the-counter product called Spenco Second Skin. It is a thin layer of synthetic material that can be applied over superficial burns. It is very soothing. Put one on your burn, and chill its replacement in the refrigerator. Why the fridge? Keeping the product could makes it more effective as a pain reliever. A bonus benefit to bandaging your burn is that you are less likely to bump it as a bandage reminds you that the burn is there.

Speed healing with C. While it won’t help reduce the pain, taking 500 to 1,000 milligrams of vitamin C a day can help a burn. It is recommended taking the mineral zinc. Take 25 to 50 milligrams of zinc a day after you burn yourself and continue until the burn heals. Bear in mind that high levels of zinc can be toxic and should be taken only under the guidance of your physician.

Arthritis – Ways To Overcome It

Arthritis – Ways To Overcome It
By Peter C Johnson

Finding the best arthritis treatment is always a challenge. There are so many factors involved in determining the health of an individual- genes, lifestyle, area where they live, diet etc.

However a person can lead the healthiest life, with the least genetic disposition to contracting a disease, yet they can still end up with the disease. This often baffles modern day medicine, as there are simply not always clear indications of why a person has a condition such as arthritis. The number one factor in arthritis treatment is an early diagnosis- this in itself will provide the possibility to treat the condition with the most effective method from the onset of the condition.

In the case of arthritis there are many forms which can take hold of an individual at all stages of life- even children. Some types of arthritis may occur, but not show symptoms for some times- so again early diagnosis and examination by one’s physician is crucial. Sometimes there is simply no explanation why an individual suffers from arthritis. Some forms of arthritis have no known causes, which makes it very difficult for a doctor to recommend preventative steps. However, no matter what form of arthritis a plan of dealing with the arthritis and treating it is needed.

As there are so many different types of arthritis, it is vital for the patient to understand which exact type of arthritis they are suffering from, and how it is effecting them. As in treating any medical condition, the doctor would normally start with ways to prevent the condition through to ways to treat and manage the condition. However, in the case of arthritis, there is not necessarily preventative measures which can be recommended – in some cases there certainly are- take the example of a body builder who develops arthritis in the joints This would be an example of an arthritis which has resulted from a distinct lifestyle issue- however this is not the norm. In the case that the cause of the arthritis is unknown, the first step is to understand the form of arthritis and its symptoms.
Next it is crucial to narrow down the most effective treatments and physical therapy to help manage the arthritis pain effectively. Finally it is important to accept the condition, and re-design your lifestyle to benefit the condition.

Currently there is no distinct cure for arthritis- largely due to the fact it shows in so many different forms, however there are many different forms of arthritis treatment--- there are pain killers, medicines, physical therapies and exercises, and
even surgery. Overcoming arthritis is not necessarily simply applying the most effective treatment, rather it is adapting one’s lifestyle and mentally accepting the condition as an inconvenience rather than a life changing event. There are certainly many ways to overcome arthritis- there is a wealth of information in the form of books and articles. The most important aspect is most certainly the way the patient mentally copes with the condition. A positive mental outlook will no doubt serve to help overcome the condition more effectively.

Home Remedies For Hair Loss That Are Both Easy And Safe

Home Remedies For Hair Loss That Are Both Easy And Safe
By Nick Mutt

Many of us are concern about a common topic - hair loss. In this article I have tried to cover some of the common hair loss treatments that you can try even at home. These home treatments help in controlling your hair fall. Try them as they natural and safe.

Home Remedies for Hair Loss

- Soak fenugreek in deep pot of water throughout the night. Massage the liquid into the scalp and wrap with a cloth for three hours. Repeat everyday for one month.

- Massage the scalp with uncooked egg yolk, leave for one hour and wash.

- Boil one cup of water, add one teaspoon of mustard seeds, cook for five minutes, cool and drink.

- Boil rosemary leaves in water, strain and keep the liquid in a glass bottle. Use it to wash your hairs daily. You can also put rosemary water in a sprayer and spray your hairs every morning.

- Massaging scalp with coconut milk will nourish the hair and promote hair growth. Coconut milk is prepared by grinding the coconut shavings and squeezing them well.

Herbal Treatments for Hair Loss

- Amla oil - Amla helps in rejuvenating the hairs and promotes hair growth. It helps in redefining the root of hairs by facilitating the nutrition to them. It also helps in improving the circulation in the scalp when massaged on it as oil.

You can prepare amla oil by boiling dry amla pieces in coconut oil. It is considered as a valuable hair tonic for enriching hair growth. A mixture of equal quantities of fresh amla juice and lime juice used as a shampoo stimulates hair growth and prevents hair loss.

- Aloe Vera - It is believes that the regular use of aloe vera gel activates the production of nitric oxide and contains an enzyme known as superoxide dismutane. Some experts feel that these two substances combine to stimulate hair regrowth in those suffering from male pattern type baldness.

- Red pepper (Capiscum) - It helps to draw blood and nutrients to the scalp and encourages the release of histimines to stimulate cell division and hair regrowth.

- Safflower oil (Carthamus tinctorious) - Safflower oil applied to the scalp acts as a vasolidator that dilates blood vessels. This allows more blood to deliver nutrients to the hair follicle thus helps in promoting hair regrowth.

- Dong Quai - It is a traditional Chinese herb that contains phytoestrogens that reduces the formation of DHT. Hence, this herb is believed to stop hair loss and even regrow hairs.

- Saw Palmetto - It is a small creeping palm containing free fatty acids and phytosterols, which block the formation of DHT and by inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha reductase that contributes to androgenetic alopecia.

Acupuncture; History And Techniques

Acupuncture; History And Techniques
By Leanne Kemp

Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used medical procedures in the world. Originating in China more than 2,000 years ago, it is used extensively in Traditional Chinese Medicine and has proven to provide pain relief, ease suffering, and reduce tension and stress. Looking at the popularity of acupuncture, many insurance companies have started to recognize it as a Complimentary Alternative Medicine and are offering this treatment within their health plans.

Today the world is moving at a very fast pace and there is very little to no free time available for the individual. To remain fit and healthy has become a real challenge. Most of us often suffer stress related problems like the nausea, back pain, lethargy etc. There are prescribed medications available to assist with the symptoms but the available medications are not free from their own form of side effects. It is not always practically possible to go to work suffering from drowsiness or lethargy caused by the commercial medications for example. To avoid this situation there are only two ways available, one take time off work which is not possible on regular basis or the second is to bear the sufferings of the pain or the disease and keep on working, which is not possible for long periods. For these very reasons people started hunting for the alternative remedies and thus acupuncture gained its relevance and importance in the modern world.

In the Chinese language acupuncture is known as zhen jiu. Acupuncture is actually the technique of restoring the health and treating pain and diseases by inserting tubular needles into the different vantage points of the body known as the acupuncture point. Acupuncture works on the principle that nature flows within the human body and it is controlled by the vital life energy termed as Qi (pronounced chee). This energy, or life force, circulates around the body through invisible channels called meridians.

If the flow of Qi in the meridians is disrupted, then disease may follow. By inserting fine needles into particular acupuncture points, the disruption can be corrected and the flow of Qi restored. To begin with, the acupuncturist questions the patient about the ailment and various other relevant facts and also performs a physical examination of the patient before starting the acupuncture treatment.

Acupuncture needles are metallic, solid, and hair-thin. People experience acupuncture differently, but most feel no or minimal pain as the needles are inserted. Some people are energized by treatment, while others feel relaxed. Depending on the location of the treatment, the patient will either sit or lie down. Properly done, acupuncture is painless because the needles are very fine (around 0.2mm in width). Once inserted, the patient may feel mild tingling around the site, warmth or heaviness, or even nothing at all.

An acupuncturist may use other techniques including:

1. Cupping - suction designed to bring Qi and blood to the acupuncture point.

2. Chinese herbs - either mixed by the acupuncturist or in pre-prepared tablet or granulated form.

3. Laser - used instead of the needles to activate acupuncture points.

4. TCM remedial massage - techniques applied to specific acupuncture points or meridians.

5. Moxibustion - burning herbs held over or applied to acupuncture points.

Does acupuncture hurt? That is the most common question asked.

The whole process may be termed as a painless process but the degree of pain bearing differs from person to person. Most of the patients have stated that there is virtually no pain at all or it is very minimal, like the pain you suffer while plucking hair.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the treatment as a whole also depends upon the expertise of the acupuncturist. It should be made clear that acupuncture may not provide instant relief from the ailment or that only one visit to the acupuncturist would suffice. Factors to consider is the severity of the ailment and also that the degree of recovery differs from person to person.

Acupuncture is an alternative remedy so many people do not rely on the procedure completely. Some patients do report a noticeable difference with one visit to the acupuncturist, but usually it takes many visits to get satisfactory improvement.

Pharmaceutical companies are churning out drugs and medicines for possibly all ailments and diseases to meet the requirements of the people wanting a “quick fix”, but where is the warning about the dangerous side effects that these drugs and medications bring along with them? We have mentioned the side effects of the commercial drugs and other medications so it is practically correct to ask about the side effects of acupuncture. There is a risk of negative side effects from acupuncture, but the quantum of the risk is very low compared to the alternate commercial remedies. The main side effects of this process is due to the improper sterilization of the used needles or placing the needles too deep in the body which can cause small bleeds, dizziness etc. These things happen when any poorly trained acupuncturist handles the patient. Therefore it is very important for you to go to a qualified acupuncturist and for the purpose it may require you to research as you do before going to
the physician or the dentist.

Whether or not you believe in the philosophy of Qi makes no difference to the effects of acupuncture. Scientific trials around the world have found that acupuncture is a safe and useful treatment for many different disorders. Acupuncture is certainly worth a try. It offers relatively very low risk of side effects and may assist in reducing independence from the load of the commercial drugs and medications available. It is definitely worth a try.

"Cabin Fever" Beating Those Wintertime Blues

"Cabin Fever" Beating Those Wintertime Blues
By Maggie Z. Mathews

“The Winter Blues” do you have them? Does a friend of relative have them? People who do this malady can be said to suffer the same lethargic feeling that we all get in the cold, cold, winter but on a much larger , greater , scale. True when it’s really cold most of us want to stay inside, even and under covers and in effect put in time till warmer spring returns. Yet the real sufferers of “Seasonal Affective Disorder’ more commonly known as “SAD” or simply “The Winter Blues” suffer real feelings of depression, hopelessness, anxiety, social withdrawal from loved ones and even life, oversleeping often coupled with a loss of interest in activities , an increased craving for sweets and starchy foods. You may notice as well that during the coldest, darkest portions of winter, when the daylight hours are very short and nights long, that the person has great difficulty concentrating and processing information.

What causes this malady that seems to run with the seasons and what can be done about it? One of the most agreed upon causes of SAD is that it revolves around a person’s circadian rhythm. Essentially since the beginning of time a person’s internal clock is set by the earth and its seasons. The circadian rhythm is what regulates the body’s internal clock. In this case the lack of sunlight in winter, combined with lower temperatures is thought to in essence disrupt the body’s natural clock and trigger the best to slow down. The person gets let active and in these cases they actually can exhibit standard and common symptoms of depression.

The neurotransmitter chemical is the brain “melatonin” is yet another factor in this puzzle. Melatonin is a standard chemical in our brains. Melatonin has been tied to the regulation of sleep as well as depression. In the winter time the body somehow bumps up its production of Melatonin. The problems occurs that at the same time the body slows down the production and release of the one other chemical neurotransmitter that might help the person out of their doldrums – serotonin. Low levels of serotonin are routine initiators of depression. Indeed the role of the commonly used antidepressant family the SSRIs (Prozac, Effexor, Zoloft, Paxil etc etc) is to raise the amount of serotonin in the brain. The problem here is the double wallop at the same time - Serotonin going down and Melatonin levels going up.

What can be done?

First of all light treatment or “light therapy” is perhaps the most widely known and useful form of treatment and help. In specially designed rooms, “boxes” or with visors the SAD sufferer is provided with bright light of the correct necessary type. Similar to the light of an outdoor environment the SAD sufferers usually sit for duration of between 30 minutes to an hour. It is said that morning times can be the best time of day for this therapy to be given. Overall treatment success is said to be in the range of 60 – 70 % with minimal side effects. Interestingly the light in the cold outdoors is similarly beneficial. The person could take a longer walk outside. This will definitely help. However it may be difficult to initiate this exercise – both because the person is already depressed and it is “very very cold outside”. So it is hard to get enough time of sunlight in with the cold winter weather.

In addition some people also benefit from antidepressant therapy or other medications used to treat depression and depression like symptoms. The FDA has approved the use of the pharmaceutical medication Wellbutrin for those with a history of Seasonal Affective Disorder. It is best to contact your doctor in this regard. It is most important for SAD patients to be treated by their doctor in these cases.

Lastly take care to eat well. Eat a well balanced diet. With “cabin fever” and the feeling of being trapped in our homes by the extreme cold weather many will take out their frustrations by “eating for comfort”. If yourself , a friend or family member suffers the “Winter Blues “ of SAD seek help – light therapy, exercise, exercise and walking outdoors have all been shown to be helpful.
And remember spring is just around the corner.

Acne Myths – The 4 Popular Myths About Acne

Acne Myths – The 4 Popular Myths About Acne
By Darren W.

The world is filled with people who spread rumors, and most of them are baseless. they are spread so there is something to talk about even though there is no logic nor does the news make any sense. Experts immediately find ways of putting these to rest, especially when connected to medical conditions. For something as simple as acne, there are numerous rumors and myths floating about. Some of these have no basis, and not scientifically proven and Doctors and dermatologists who are qualified try throwing light on these issues to protect the patients' interests.

Some of the most popular myths about acne are,-

1. Acne is caused because of stress
This statement is only partly true, stress is not a sole cause for acne, but it does trigger acne and at times when the boil gets aggravated it could be due to high stress. When a person is stressed out, his body increases sebaceous glands functioning which leads to excretion of oil. For a lady who is trying to conceive, she might worry each day about whether she is pregnant or would she ever get pregnant or not. This will add to stress that builds up inside her system and is released in the form of acne.

If , on the other hand, a women wants to put off getting pregnant and begin using oral contraceptives, they should consult their doctor to understand the effects and benefits of the same before taking them. In order to prevent acne, people are often advised to get involved in some activity that will help control the stress levels and keep them relaxed.

2. Food items leads to acne
There are no direct connections between food and acne, and this has been a research for quite sometime now. However, if a person adopts eating of regulated healthy diet, their skin condition is known to be better than others. For people who rely on fast food, French fries, aerated drinks, greasy oily food or even eat out regularly, the amount of oil extracted will lead to acne or pimples frequently.

3. Cosmetics connected to cases of Acne
A small zit on our face wrecks our life and spoils our day, and we will not rest till we have found a solution. All it does is hampers the looks, and leads to scars. This cannot classify acne as a cosmetic based disease. However, excessive use of cosmetics and make up will cause acne, when the person does not know the proper method of applying and removing the make up. They need to understand that their skin too like them needs fresh air, and this is possible only by washing their face before going to bed after a party.

4. Dirt and grime leads to acne
Dirt will not directly lead to acne, but it might be the reason if there is too much dirt or grime on the skin and it gets mixed with the oil secreted. When the follicles on the skin cells get blocked, it leads to acnes.

Tips To Get Rid Of Acne Naturally

Tips To Get Rid Of Acne Naturally
By Geoff White

Let's face it, having acne isn't a pleasant experience. But what is the best way to get rid of it? Are there any ways to get rid of acne naturally that actually work?

Fortunately, the answer is yes!

In fact, using natural products can be a quick and easy way to reduce your acne or even eliminate it altogether.

The more natural the products, the better.

Start by increasing the amount of water you drink. This will help to detoxify your body. And when I say water, I mean actual water. Not water disguised inside tea, coffee, juice, smoothies or soda pop. Just pure water. With the state of tap water nowadays, it's probably best to filter your water. This is cheaper than buying bottled and is at least as pure. Jug style water filters are easy to use and many are designed to be kept in your fridge so that your drink is cool as well.

Water helps rehydrate your body, which is around 50 to 60 percent water depending on your age.

Water also helps flush away the different toxins that accumulate in your body and helps your body to naturally carry out detoxification.

You'll also find that cutting out things like soda will likely lead you to a healthier diet, which in turn should help decrease your acne problems.

Next up, start taking flax seed oil on a regular basis. You can buy this from your local health food store or over the internet or even in your local WalMart. Although it's not technically an acne cure, it helps heal your skin and many people have reported having less acne symptoms once they've started adding flax seed oil to their regime. It's also a great natural moisturizer.

Use a natural cleansing routine. Most commercial products contain things that are harmful to your skin. Alcohol in its various disguises will dehydrate your skin, so avoid any products containing it. You'll likely be shocked at just how many products this rules out at a stroke. Although it may seem a pain to stand in the supermarket aisle, reading the fine print on the labels, remember that you only need to do this once. Then keep using the best product you come across.

You can narrow down your search by looking for "sensitive skin" labels as these should be less harsh than the majority of the products on the shelf.

Don't pick at your acne! This is easier said than done, but resisting the temptation to pop your zits as much as possible is a good move. Squeezing your pimples can lead to scarring and will definitely spread the infection as the contents of your pimples will be transferred to your hands and then elsewhere unless you religiously wash your hands the instant you've given in to the temptation of popping that zit.

Another possible natural remedy for acne is to beat an egg yolk and then dab it onto the affected area using a clean piece of cotton wool. Remember to rinse off the mixture after about 15 minutes.
